Invergordon - Scotland 21st July, 2017

We awoke after we had docked in Invergordon, in far North East Scotland.  There were Oil Rigs parked in the Harbour to to refurbished, and also a British Aircraft Carrier, and a least 2 maybe 3 Police boats patrolling the harbour close to our ship and the Aircraft Carrier

We had an excursion today to Royal Dornoch and Glenmorangie Whiskey Distillery. The Scottish landscape is as beautiful as we remembered.  Royal Dornoch is a very pretty little town, close to the sea, with a Cathedral and an Archbishops Palace built in 1222.  The Palace is now called the Dornoch Castle and is a Hotel.  The Cathedral is now a Church of Scotland, and had been burnt down and rebuilt a couple of times, after clan warfare.  By UK standards it is quite small, and roughly built,  but does have some lovely stain glass windows

Royal Dornoch is the home of Andrew Carnegie, who made a fortune in USA in the Steel Industry with Bethlehem Steel.  He was one of the worlds first philanthropists, and we were told that on his death left nothing to his children.
Next stop was Glenmorangie Whiskey Distillery.  It was started in 1843, as brewery by a local.  It was then converted into a Distillery after he bought a Gin Still from London.  From this point in time it has been a Single Malt Whiskey Distillery, and up until recently the whole process was done on site.  As the production has grown so much, they now bring in the malted barley from another local supplier.  The rest of the process from the mashing to the storage is done on site.
The Pot Stills are very large and are the tallest in Scotland, they are equivalent in height to a male adult giraffe and are a brassy orange colour, and therefore a giraffe is used in their marketing. At the end of the tour the was a tasting.

On arrival back at the dock, John again went in search of Medication.  As we were both exhausted after lunch, we went back to the cabin for a rest.  I had a massage late in the afternoon. Dinner was spent with James and Yasmina and was an informal night.  We spent the rest of the night in the El Dorado Bar listening to music and being served drinks by Joseph.
