We spend the morning organising luggage for our trip to Amsterdam tomorrow. We then went our for a walk, via the markets, which turned into lunch at the Wall Street Cafe. We spoke to an English couple, here for a couple of days, as it is a 5 hour direct trip on the Eurostar. They were actually lost, and surprise, surprise, we were able to help them, being almost locals by this stage :) As the weather was absolutely foul, we decided that we would straight back to the apartment.
We had been watching from our balcony over the last couple of days, the painting and preparation of a little restaurant.
Being our last night in Avignon, we decided to give it a try. John had been and made sure it would be open (being a Sunday night), and as we walked in he told me that the owner, chef, waiter did not speak any English and that this could be a challenge !!! Communication was fun - we were able to make sense of the blackboard menu, between us and the chef. I ordered an aubergine and frommage dish, that was baked. The smell of the aubergine being charred was amazing. It was the nicest meal with aubergine that I have ever had, and had he spoke English (even a little) I would have requested the recipe. The Chocolate Molten Cake for dessert was to die for !!! Great way to spend our last night in Avignon.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here in Avignon, our apartment is great, we love being in residential part of the city, rather than in a hotel with the other tourists.
The people have been wonderful and friendly, and I am sure we will keep in in touch with Philip.
