Today we caught the bus into the city to go to lunch at The Old Bank of England Pub, one of John's "I know where I'm going" ideas !!! I know it's on Fleet Street !! after another bus from Trafalgar Square, we ended up outside St Paul's Cathedral. No Old Bank of England Pub to be seen!! after varying opinions from Taxi drivers, shop owners, as to where it might be, I decided to check on google ..... but no internet on the esim !!!. walked until we saw a Costa, where I could get wifi. I contacted the esim company who said there was an outage and service should be resumed within the hour, but was also able to find the location of The Old Bank of England Pub which was back towards Trafalgar Square, right near the Law Courts, definitely on Fleet St..
I was eventually a lovely place to enjoy a quite lunch, it was originally the Law Courts branch of the bank of England.
After lunch we walked across Fleet Street to find the Temple Church. It was built by the Knights Templar to protect pilgrims on there way to and from Jerusalem in the 12 Century. It was consecrated in 1185.
Unfortunately, we were unable to go inside, as there was a rehearsal for a performance that night.
We continued to walk around the area - which is a beautiful, quiet and is now offices of Barristers and Lawyers, and it is really hard to believe that the hustle and bustle of Fleet Street is less than 100m mtrs away.
There is a fountain that is mentioned in Charles Dickens book "Martin Chuzzlewit"
