We left to Hotel and caught a Taxi to the Amsterdam Central Railway Station for our journey to Hamburg. Train arrived on time, as usual. For this journey we were in a compartment that seated 6 people. In the compartments the luggage is stored overhead !!! fantastic when you have 2 suitcases that weight about 20 kgs !!! John got a workout :)
We meet a lovely American couple from San Fransico. About 1 hr into the trip the train stopped - not at a station !! An announcement was made within a couple of minutes, saying there was an accident on the line ahead and we would be there for a minimum of 20 mins. 20 minutes later, we were informed that the train was being returned to a station just outside of Amsterdam to be diverted to a northern line to connect with Osnabruck !! At this point we knew for sure that we would miss our connection in Osnabruck to Hamburg - oh well, shit happens !!! Unfortunately, the air-conditioning on the train was not working, and all in all in was the worst European train journey we have had. There was not problem with getting us on another train, we only had a 10 min wait.
In many European cities, there are multiple railway stations in the city - we were so anxious for the journey to end, we got off the train 1 station early !!! No problem, 37 euros later for the taxi ride we arrived at the Ramada City Hotel.
However, our 4 1/2 trip took just over 7 hours.
We were exhausted, when we got the hotel, so dinner and bed it was
