Wednesday 24th August, 2022

We had pre booked a Freedom of the Line Ticket for our trip on the Severn Railway, which is a Heritage Railway, from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth. From the moment you walk into the station, it just like stepping back in time.  Even the tickets, were tiny rectangular cardboard tickets, just like when we were kids

We had planned to catch the 12.35pm Steam train, but  arrived at the station quite early, and whilst having breakfast, we decided to catch an earlier train, which was a vintage diesel, as far as Highley (about 1/2 way) to get off and look at the Engine House.

The Engine House housed about 8 fully restored Steam Engines, complete with their history. There was play area for children

We walked the 5 mins back to Highley Station, to find out that the next train was delayed, as one of the engines was having traction problems.  As its a single line, with a couple passing areas, nothing can be done except to wait. The train we joined here was a steam train. At this point the delay was approximately 1 hour, but the expected it to get better during the day.  This turned out to be wishful thinking.

Finally, we arrived at Bridgnorth, where we sat and had a beer and sandwich, and again waited for the next train, which was a very special train.  It was the Elizabeth 11 Platinum Jubilee Train, painted bright purple.

Another one of the engine at Bridgnorth

Just before arrive back to Kidderminster there was s Safari Park along side the railway track.  There were Rhinos, camels and elephants.  It was had to get good photos from a moving train!!!!

By the time we arrived back to Kidderminster at 6.35pm we were 2 hours later than we expected to be, and we still had a drive of approximately 1 1/4 hrs to our next accommodation.  After a stop at a supermarket along the way, google managed to get us lost in the tiny backroads.  These roads are so narrow, that 2 cars cannot pass each other, and the speed limit is 60 miles per hour - which is about 100 klms per hour !!!!!!! quite scary at times.

Even with the delay it was a fantastic day, as both of us love trains 😄
