Tuesday 11th September, 2018

Our day started in Milton Keynes by doing grocery shopping to take on our narrowboat, returning the hire car and catching a taxi to Wvyern Shipping Co in Linslade.  On arrival in Linslade I asked the taxi driver how much I owed him and he said 100 GBP with a dead straight face.  I looked at John, thinking that can't be right !!! John questioned him and again he said 100 GBP, to which I said “that is really expensive” with a smile on his face he said “yes, it is, but 14 GBP will do. !!!haha
After a discussion with the office staff, we were taken to “Daisy” to put our luggage and groceries on board.

Then we were given an induction, which was incredibly thorough, by Coop.  Coop had been living on a narrowboat for many years with his wife, and has definitely led an alternate lifestyle.  He then took us through the first lock, and set us free !!! a good, but a little daunting feeling.!!! Here we come Grand Union Canal !!

It was about 2pm when we started cruising along, passing another Wvyern boat that had left just before us.

When we came to the next lock, they came up behind us.  This lock had lock volunteers to help - which was great.  We hadn't intended on going too far, but were encouraged by the lovely couples on the other boat to keep on going with them to Milton Keynes,  There were a few more locks and being with people who knew what to do was very helpful.  We had intended to moor near a pub at Milton Keynes, but the close moorings were full and it was then quite a walk back to the pub, and after 7pm by the time we moored further around the canal,so we decided to have BLT’s on the boat, and sit and relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.
