We were up and moving by 9am, as we had to meet John the Skipper at Stanley Ferry, where there is a swing bridge. John, joined us, as we motored down to the next lock, which is the first manual lock on this canal. John and John worked this lock together, as it was very heavy, again while I remained on the boat and navigated the lock.
After this John, the Skipper left us on our own for the remainder of our journey. We made our way through at least another 2 locks and by this time it was about 5.30pm, a much bigger day than we had anticipated. Again we moored beside the towpath for dinner and drinks, as all the pubs so far have been hard to access.
