Sunday 28th & Monday 29th August, 2022. Tamworth to Birmingham to Liverpool

After another relaxing morning spend in the Hotel Bar, drinking coffee. We made our our to Chris & Jo's to spend a couple more hours sitting and talking before heading to Birmingham for the night.

On the way we stopped in Shrewsbury, and visited St. Chads Church, which is a church like no other we have been into.  The current church was built in 1792.  It is a round church, and the central hall with its sweeping double staircase to the gallery, makes it more like a country house than a church.  Charles Darwin was baptised in this church on 15th November, 1809.

We wandered into the park, The Quarry, which the Servern River flows through, for a cup of tea and ended up chatting to a local couple for a while.

Back on the road again, this time in search of Old Oswestry Hill Forte, which from the Iron Ages. It dates back to 800 BC and was a successful defensive structure with living quarters at top, until the Roman army arrived and conquered it quite quickly.
The wonderful thing about the Hill Forte is that the defensive ditches, which are huge, would have been dug out by hand and the soil carried to where it was needed in wicker sacks.
Next stop the Pontcysyllte Viaduct, across the river Dee, just near Telford in Wales
it is an 18arch stone and Cast iron structure, an was completed in 1850.
It is amazing

From here we continued on to out accommodation for the night, in Liverpool, which looked pretty average from the outside !! We were both a bit concerned !!! It had taken us a long time to find what we thought was acceptable accommodation, with car parking, on the ground for the 2 nights were in Liverpool.

The room was great, very large and very well appointed, thank heavens for that.  We decided to go to a pub for dinner -  not easy to find at first, then the pub we found didn’t serve food, so we ended up at Cain Brewery village, which was like a carnival atmosphere.  John didn’t like it !!

We went into the pub , which advertised food all day, and checked at the bar if food was available, ordered a drink and checked the menu !! No more than 5 mins later we went to order food and were told that the kitchen had closed!!!! Not happy!!

Ended up at another bar and Pizza place !!
